A new Coroner is in town, and she’s got tons of personal drama that has to temporarily take the backseat when it’s time to solve crimes. The title character, Dr. Jenny Cooper, also brings compassion to the job. Not that she doesn’t have an eye for those missing elements that solve a mystery, but her kind heart takes what could be a dry procedural to a new, compelling level.
The series navigates a wide range of mysteries that pull Dr. Cooper and her team into different corners of the city, where nothing is ever quite as straightforward as it first appears. Her day job mixes with a challenging personal life, and dealing with the sudden death of her husband, a teenage son on the verge of dropping out of school, and visions of a dog that probably represents Death. Solving murders is Cooper’s salvation. A character after our own hearts, right?
